Chris Burdett

My love for aviation goes back to when I was a 6 year old. I was lucky to have a best friend whose dad was a pilot. He took us kids flying all the time. When I wasn’t flying I was pinned to flight simulator ’95!

I starting flying again when my wife bought me a trial flight with GoFly on 30 June 2019 for my birthday. I felt the spark reappear and straight away knew I wanted to become the best pilot I could be.

I learnt with an instructor at GoFly named Chris – and with whom I also share a birthday –  so I knew the universe was throwing me in the right direction. I’ve never known a business with so many friendly instructors and staff, who made me feel so welcome and excited to be a pilot.

The GoFly Online videos helped me so much to see what I was in for, in all the different upcoming lessons!

I was lucky enough to meet aerobatics instructor, Colin, after I finished my Navigation course, and I got into aerobatics. I’ve always loved the adrenaline sports, dirt bikes and fast cars. During the course, Colin invited me to join the team to compete in the Qld State Titles in aerobatics. I told him I was super keen to take the trophy and trained very hard. The day came. I competed and ended up coming 3rd. I was over the moon. My training in aerobatics and spin recovery has made me such a better pilot!!

Apart from my love for flying upside down, the best thing I love about flying is taking friends and family up and seeing their faces glow with excitement after experiencing a different perspective on life, especially if we are inverted, haha!

My aviation goals for the future are to obtain my instructor rating. I just want to share my love for flying with like-minded students while teaching them to be safe and being the best pilots they can be. Later I want to study for my Commercial Pilot Licence. I’ll also be training very hard to take the trophy at the 2021 Aerobatic National Championships.
